Legend, The Arthurian Tarot
by Anna-Marie Ferguson
This is a super tarot set and is fast becoming one of my absolute favorites. I would have loved it as a girl, for the mystical,
ethereal, and romantic qualities of both the artwork and the writing. I love it now as a woman, for those same qualities, but also for its shared wisdom,
deep insight, and surprising applicability to my life now.
The set is truly inspired. The author, Anna-Marie Ferguson, a long time lover of tarot and student of the Arthurian legends, had an epiphany one evening while driving.
In her mind she saw each card designed around a character, place, event, creature, or object from the legends. Her creation is heartfelt and soulful. For every card in this
deck, and every explanation in the book, Ferguson's inspiration and vision are alive and complete. The timelessness of the Arthurian legend has also been skillfully
rendered as highly usable in our modern lives, making the deck an impressive instrument to solving our current problems.
For the past several months, since receiving this deck, I have used it for all sorts of inquiries, and have even used it in working out new spreads (usually I create
spreads using decks I have owned for years). It is wonderfully "cooperative" - there is a true and potent interaction between myself and each card, and between the cards
themselves. Readings have been immediately accurate, clear, and indepth. The cards have offered truth and clarity in mundane as well as spiritual issues.

I think it is important for me to mention that although I have always been intrigued by the Arthurian legends, I have never been fully familiar with them, nor have I ever
considered them one of my main interests. Despite these facts, I love the set. It does not require any previous knowledge of Arthur, indeed it has much to teach.
It similarly does not require a love of the legends; the cards will create that for you!
Ferguson's respect for and understanding of the traditional tarot form a strong foundation for this set. Suits are renamed but not altered in meaning. Major Arcana cards
are also held to their traditional meanings and places in the traditional tarot. Pips are all decorated with full pictures. The only cards that do not contain scenes are the Pages,
who are animals, depicting a variety of youthful, or pure, energies. The cards can be used with a general understanding of the tarot, or by complete beginners.
The text that accompanies divinatory meanings (which are based on tradition) provides further insight of much value, by describing elements of the Arthurian legends, and by telling
specific stories.
Through working with this set one can learn much about the tarot, much about the Arthurian legends, and much about oneself. Of all the decks I have received lately, this is the most exciting
because it works for me on such an internal, intuitive level. I am so glad that Anna-Marie Ferguson pursued her vision, and then shared it with the rest of us.
