About the Reviews

I never considered stopping with just one tarot deck. After my first deck - Tarot Classic by USGames - was given to me as a Christmas present when I was a teenager, I soon decided I wanted the Rider-Waite and Thoth decks as well. Tarot quickly became an important personal interest, and new tarot decks were special purchases and truly appreciated gifts.

I almost always see something positive in a deck. I try to see a deck from different points of view, knowing that each deck will have its fans. I do not review decks negatively simply for veering from the traditional - I see tarot as an art form, as well as a spiritual device, and I admire and appreciate the creativity of the tarot artists/authors.

Also, my reviews can be quite personal. I feel that all reviews are subjective to some degree - every critic but the very best will see a tarot deck, book, or movie through their own personal filter, bringing to their reviews their own likes and dislikes, what they feel is right or wrong, beautiful or trite. When I write reviews I tend to demonstrate how the subject of the review has affected me, personally. I also have a better time if I can relate it to my life or some personal experience. Many people have told me they love this more personal quality of my reviews, but there are a few who absolutely can't stand it ;-) So, just a warning.

Purchasing tarot through Illumination Tarot
I have an affiliate partnership with Amazon, which means that any purchase made directly through one of my links will give me a small referral payment. This is pennies really, but it does add up and does contribute to the upkeep of the site. I appreciate all purchases and support. However, I don't link to Amazon because of the referral fees! Amazon is still the best place for reader reviews and publisher information. So, click on the Amazon links not just to purchase a deck, but to read more about it.
